At St Peter’s there is a felt energy - the Holy Spirit breathing new and renewed life into the community – individually and together. Open and Affirming
Guided by Jesus’ great commandment to love God, and our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:28-34), and the Apostle Paul’s teaching of acceptance of one another (Romans 14:1 – 15:13), St Peter’s by the Sea is an open and affirming faith community. Our congregation recognizes that all people are uniquely loved and valued by God. Persons of every race, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, and economic condition are integral to our community. As an open and affirming church, St Peter’s by the Sea welcomes, embraces and celebrates diversity at all levels of our congregational life.
Spiritual Growth and Transformation
St Peter’s is a safe place for people of all ages to ask and wrestle with life and faith questions. Jesus is the center and from that core, individually and together, the people of St Peter’s strive to be co-creators with God for heaven on earth. There is contagious joy being part of a learning, growing, worshipping community equipped and empowered to share the peace and power of Jesus with this world that God so deeply loves.
Caring
St Peter’s is dedicated to demonstrating Christ’s love through compassionate service, empathy and intentional support for the church family and community. Through activities such as visiting the sick, sending cards, lifting heartfelt prayers, hosting memorial receptions, providing meals, offering support during times of grief or crisis, and gifts of shawls and quilts, St Peter’s nurtures a sense of belonging and encouragement.
Mission and Service
St Peter’s by the Sea has been known as a mission-focused church since it was originally founded in 1959. The congregation puts in thousands of hours each year reaching out and providing helping hands in the local community and beyond. Over the years, St Peter’s has aligned itself with organizations and missionaries offering financial and hands-on support and partnership with mutual benefit. Each year, at least 10% of the annual budget is committed to people and partnerships outside of the church. St. Peter’s committed to a Presbyterian Church (USA) invitation to become a Matthew 25 Congregation following Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 25:31–46 by becoming active disciples, engaging in fearless social witness, and making tangible difference in our community and the world.
